Breaking barriers of mental health needs social stigma: an Assessment in Meigs County’s Eastern Local School District

Sometimes a small community doesn’t need to go through a major crisis before help is on the way. Through a fortuitous funding opportunity from the United States Department of Education, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs was able to conduct a health needs assessment for the Eastern Local School District in Meigs County, Ohio and bring to the community’s attention some ways to improve understanding of and access to mental health help.

Managing Medical Needs Behind Bars

The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs recently finished a study concerning how Ohio jails identify inmates with HIV/AIDS and provide care for them. Funded by an Ohio Department of Health (ODH) grant, this study aimed to learn more about care provisions provided for inmates living with HIV and Aids while in jail and upon release. Franklin County Children Services "calls" on the Voinovich School
Franklin County Children Services (FCCS) is committed to protecting Franklin County’s children by strengthening families. To support this, FCCS has an active evaluation program that assesses the quality of the services they provide. In 2009, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs assisted FCCS in its evaluation efforts by conducting two phone surveys investigating satisfaction levels among parents, fosters parents, and guardians (case members) of children receiving court ordered services from FCCS. One survey questioned case members of children with ongoing or recently closed cases. A second survey polled the parents of children placed in certified residential treatment centers. Collaboration at the Voinovich School helps clients, students

The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs collaborated with an Ohio University professor to investigate the technical, financial, and environmental feasibility of her ammonia powered technology, bringing together professional staff and students to complete the project.
