OHIO report chronicles successes, challenges of university-supported produce auction

The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs issued a report March 18 that chronicles the story of the produce auction where Ohio University purchases food for its dining programs, including a set of best practices that other communities can follow if they want to start a similar auction.

Written with the help of two Honors Tutorial College research scholars, “Chesterhill Produce Auction: A Rural Appalachia Case Story,” tells the history of the Chesterhill Produce Auction in Morgan County, Ohio, which launched in 2005.

For Ohio University graduate student Kevin Riddell, storytelling is far more than entertainment. It's about giving voice to the voiceless.

He does it well, as his current accolades would suggest. A former newspaper photographer, Riddell currently freelances for the Associated Press as well as The New York Times while completing his course work at Ohio University's School of Visual Communication.

On Wednesday, April 15th, after a year's worth of work, Riddell unveiled two of three documentaries produced on behalf of the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs to the school's Strategic Partners Group.
